One thing I rarely see discussed is how this is a strategic win for the US. It pretty much permanantly destroyed the concept of a unified Europe with Russia and Western Europe now being in a perpetual position of animosity (the US failed to consider that Russia can always sell to Asia and other countries).
The US knows China can’t be beaten, so it ensured Europe doesn’t unify and create a singular economic bloc that would further threaten US interests across the Atlantic. Asia is lost, Europe will be lost sooner or later. The best way out for US was to make sure Europe stays weak forever.
If Russia takes it all it will be a boon to everyone. Even Ukrainians themselves. Russians will just have to pay the price of dealing with all the radicals-shit and pay for reconstruction. I have no doubt that if rump-Ukraine still stands after war, EU will leave it and it’s people to rot as thanks for dying to hurt Russia. Everyone is increasingly unwilling to pay for Ukraine’s war anymore. It’s more than likely that nobody will pay Ukraine anything after the war and since much of the loans were guaranteed on existing Ukrainian assets and land and resources in Donbass they will have nothing, less than nothing. but it’s not just about the money. Ukraine has no people, economy, infrastructure or political stability left and it will likely be landlocked.
Ukraine left alone will be known as lawless hub of terrorism and weapons- and human trafficking for decades to come. Like Libya, but in Europe.

That’s probably the point, this kind of places seem to be left in wake of US interventions very often.

People have joked about a “stabbed in the back” narrative, and that is looking more likely every day. With all those weapons sent to Ukraine, having well armed militias on your doorstep who believe you betrayed them, could potentially lead to some crazy blowback in Europe.
Europe has no one to blame but itself.
