The National Governors Association (NGA) has canceled its annual White House meeting after President Trump only invited Republican governors to the gathering.

The yearly meeting is traditionally bipartisan and offers a chance for state leaders to convene with one another and the president.

“Because NGA’s mission is to represent all 55 governors, the Association is no longer serving as the facilitator for that event, and it is no longer included in our official program,” Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt ® wrote in a Monday letter announcing plans to forgo the meeting, according to The Associated Press.

Stitt said the Trump administration’s decision to exclude Democratic governors would not divide the association.

NGA’s mission is to represent all 55 governors

For anyone else wondering what’s represented beyond the 50 states, the NGA’s Governors page includes the governors of American Somoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

American Samoa doesn’t want to become a state because parts of the constitutions equality laws would erase part of their culture.

Yeah that’s most peoples take, I don’t necessarily agree, but that’s just the reason. There was a big push at one point for statehood that mostly came from people stateside that used to live in American Samoa but it never got broad support by the people who live there.

A lot of it has to do with giving American foreigners rights and not wanting the island to be industrialized and pushed towards more tourism and M/Billionaires 10th vacation home.

This is fighting? Not holding an event? The bare minimum here is to host it and still invite everyone because that’s the entire point. Throwing the plan in the garbage and walking away isn’t fighting, especially when he’s getting his way pretty much everywhere and can just have his little Republican governors’ meeting whenever he wants otherwise.

Ya’ll need to redefine “fighting” because that’s the weakest shit I’ve ever seen.

Unfortunately it’s probable that the White House will just go ahead with the event anyways by having the Republican Governors (or as many as possible) have dinner with the president at the white house

He’s surrounded by yes men and has dementia. He probably doesn’t even know this meeting was a thing. This is a whole bunch of nothing.

So you guys think Stitt isn’t cradling the balls and jerking it behind closed doors? As in he doesn’t feel like it’s smart or time yet to fully divest of the charade?

Yeah, only reason this is happening is because they would’ve run into legal problems trying to say this was a Governors Association dinner when their vice chair and about half their members objected

It is in fact possible to be both Republican and vehemently against the current regime. There are plenty of die-hard Republicans who have vocally hated Trump for the past decade.

That doesn’t mean he has good politics, but you can have bad politics and still hate the out-and-out Nazis.
