Maybe a stupid question, but how do I broach this with work? Do I call in sick? Do I express explicitly that I am striking? Do I just not show up? Are there legal protections for general strikes (hahahahahahaha, in this country?)?

Personally, I would express explicitly that I am participating in the general strike. I might say something like one of these:

      Good morning [Boss’s Name],

I wanted to let you know that I will be unavailable on Thursday, January 30, as I will be participating in a nationally organized general strike taking place that day.

This decision is personally and morally motivated and is not intended as a statement toward you, my colleagues, or the company. I remain committed to my role and responsibilities, and I will be fully available again on the next working day.

Please let me know if there is anything I should prepare or hand off in advance to ensure continuity.

      Thank you,

      Good morning [Boss’s Name],

I wanted to let you know that I will be unavailable on Thursday, January 30.

I’ll ensure that any responsibilities are covered or handed off in advance, and I’ll be fully available again on the next working day. Please let me know if you need anything from me beforehand.

      Thank you,

Keep driving towards a general strike. That’s the only thing that truly scares them as it will have dramatic downstream effects, likely power-altering.

It really does! General strikes are the reason we have a lot of our human rights. The only language the capitalists speak is money, and their money comes from our exploitation!

Are they not against ICE? What’s wrong with using that framing? I don’t think ICE is popular among the majority of the general population right now.

Because there’s a large contingent here who is against anything that might actually work.

Almost like they’re using the field guide to organizational sabotage against us.
