The Iranian military claimed it targeted the USS Abraham Lincoln with cruise missiles, with President Trump later stating that “101 missiles” were fired at the carrier and “every single one was knocked down.” Iranian officials said cruise missiles were launched from the coast toward the carrier, forcing it to change position, while satellite imagery reportedly located the Lincoln approximately “240 kilometers off the coast of Oman,” a significant distance from Iranian shores.
The Carrier Air Wing Nine, including F-35C stealth fighters, has been launching strikes against targets in Iran from the Lincoln in the Arabian Sea. A second US carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, withdrew after a fire in its laundry room caused damage, and a third, the USS George H.W. Bush, is reportedly en route to the region.
