I wish it would be possible, but the amount of work to convert would make it more difficult than not. Honestly, I would love to see more community centers made from the abandoned malls at least as a starting point, and then go from there.
She/Her pronouns only please.
The same CounselingTechie from Solarpunk.moe.
I like to garden and try to find ways to bring joy and hope into my world.

Thank you for sharing this. I admit, the nature of hopepunk was something I found recently through solarpunk and it kept going in my heart as an ideal to push for, especially in the work and life environment I am in.
You put it best. Many want the cottage/cabin in the woods for the vacation space to post pictures on their instagram or such. There is little allure to the true nature of the lifestyle, the simple cruelty of it. The aesthetic is not the lifestyle, and I wish people would understand that.
I find myself more surprised at this not being as well known as you put it. The information was presented in a rational manner and I will be looking it over again in the near future.
I shall be the one to open the jar, for I am curious.
2 hours for the city to city yeah. It is closer to 3 and a half hours for those of us who are in the more rural communities.
As someone who lives in Colorado, I see no issues with them actually creating more options for transit.
I am the same way as you. I learned about Solarpunk through someone who was Cyberpunk like I am, and it turned into the conversation that made me see it as all connected. Cyberpunk is what our world is becoming by those who are above us, closer and closer every day. Soon it will shift into Lunarpunk and Solarpunk as we push for the change of what we want.
I will not deny that in many situations there is damage caused by the current Mental Healthcare Model, I have seen many who suffer from the stigmatization of their struggles, both self-inflicted by how they are told to view themselves as well as inflicted by those that they hold trust towards; however, I cannot truly agree with your belief of it being people-destroying, but that is due to my own observations and experiences on both sides of the glass window.
As I had mentioned earlier in my own comment, one of the most important steps to be taken is to change the stigma of the labels, including the label of client or patient.
You hold strongly to the ideals of Solarpunk in your discussion, it is apparent in the tone your text conveys. Also I had never seen that website before, I may have to look at it in the future.
This is something I have thought a lot about, if you look at my username you could guess why, lol.
A restorative model is a fundamental component of a solarpunk society I would feel, where the work is done to attempt to assist people in helping themselves to work through their mental health disorders as a whole. It would be recognizing where the individual is, recognizing their level of ambivalence towards treatment and then working with them over time. Perhaps a secluded land that is self-sustaining, where they can get therapy and support as they find a space for themselves away from triggers? That is one thought I’ve seen people discuss before. I feel it would depend on the individual there though, as a solarpunk society I imagine would not do a 5150 or other forms of Involuntary Commitment.
The issue is stigma, as has been for so long. It is so easy for people to be given the label of a schizophrenic, a psychopath, a narcissist, so forth, without there being actual understanding that the person is still an individual who is struggling.
I would personally enjoy seeing some more improvement being made for transport by train in my state, that being said though, I would be happier if BNSF would be able to incorporate transport of people too someday instead of just carting coal everywhere.
I am admittedly very similar. I found the few short stories where it is based more off the modern era and how they are using the technology and ideals of community they have to counteract the way the world is. But that is also weirdly just the kind of person I am as a Solarpunk appreciator. I see it as the way that the current world is being changed, piece by piece, without having to be apocalyptic or fantasy.
I agree with you, it is good to see something started, and to imagine them working on expanding it with time!
Something simple I had done was that I invested in USB powered grow lights for my indoor plants, as the apartment I had a few years ago was in the worst position for getting light. If you have a good window, feel free to set up something small for now, some herbs or even flowers for just adding a bit of nature into your life. People mentioned the different options for composting, which I agree with as well. The idea of setting up portable solar panels if you can afford them, for little stuff is a good idea too. It is really up to you, what you feel you can do and start with! A big part also is that solarpunk isn’t just at home, it also is in the community.
Something that I like to focus on with the idea of a solarpunk kitchen is the practice of cooking outside during the summer times. To keep from needing to put more effort into cooling the house afterward, using a solar cooker outside, or an electric stove outside.
I have been following them for a year or two now, and it is just amazing. I have thought about how hard or easy a system could be built to connect it with lorawan or similar.
