I’ve only played 3 of the total 20+ Yakuza/Like a Dragon series (Like a Dragon, Lost Judgement, and Infinite Wealth) but it is probably my favorite series that has been around a while. Shit’s like an anime soap opera for people my age. And they are LOOOOOOONG. I have almost 80 hours in Lost Judgement alone and according to the cards on my PS5, I am only 36% through the main story. 😳

How and why is it not mostly automated at this point, anyway?

This is the main reason I prefer dubs to subs. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon especislly loses flavor in the subtitles that do get translated in the dubs. Every line in the sub is basic and just barely enough to understand the plot. But it lacks the poetry of language that make it good dialogue.
