It’s IP68 rated. Can such a slim real wood back be truly water resistant?
A hands-on article from the same website says it’s not pure wood. It’s been treated to protect it from water and skin oil
The backplate would be the only one made out of wood. It should also have some form of coating to make sure it doesn’t get damaged easily. But, prolonged use can damage it like any other smartphone or perhaps more.
Unless, you plan on submerging or washing it on a daily basis. It should be fine.
The design is dope af
I’m not letting go of my s20 ultra. I’m keeping my micro sd card slot. I’m just not sure what I’m going to do if I want a new battery for it. The aftermarket ones suck, and the ones on ebay are generally used (even if they claim otherwise) or knock offs.
Are they official ones not available?
Nope. Samsung won’t sell them. At least not to consumers. I don’t know what their official repair places got going.
I work at a phone repair shop (not Samsung certified), our suppliers sell us new genuine batteries. So maybe ask around at one near you. Or get one from ifixit, I replaced my Oneplus 6’s battery with their aftermarket one and it works great.
You work at a phone repair shop thar can get oem batteries, but you used an aftermarket one from ifixit?
I live in a smaller city, so there aren’t really any reputable ones here, but I may see what I can get a hold of when I drive to a bigger city, or make a few phone calls to some.
We get OEM Samsung batteries. Not for Oneplus last time I checked. The more popular the brand the higher the likelihood for original parts.
Strange. If you can’t get the battery replaced at a service center. Where else could you get a genuine one.
You can pay to have them replaced at some samsung certified repair centers, but they charge like $140 for this phone (last I checked quite a while back), you can’t watch them do it, they won’t sell you just the battery, and it means you don’t know for sure what you’re even getting.
I’ve done all my own phone repairs (and others phones) for the past 20 years. I’m more qualified to not screw up than whoever they have working at one of those places, so I’d much rather do it myself instead of letting them do it let alone paying $140 for a battery that cost samsung like $10 to make.
I see makes sense. If you are into self-repair. Consider a fairphone as the next upgrade. You won’t have to deal with such anti consumer behaviour with them.
Fairphone 5 can be used in the US, but isn’t supported or going to be sold in the US. Not buying a $900 phone with just OK specs that won’t come with a warranty.
Mid battery
The standout camera is the 3x 72mm periscope, which is equipped with a 64MP sensors (0.7µm pixels) and a bright f/2.4 aperture.
You can’t just throw the word periscope in there with no explanation unless this phone also comes with sonar and torpedoes
Periscope is a type of zoom lens that has been used in smartphones for a while. Here’s an android police article on the subject: https://www.androidpolice.com/how-periscope-cameras-work/
Wow, never heard of that before. Actually a really interesting article, cheers!
My note 20 ultra has it. It’s super cool to get zoom on a low profile camera like whats needed in a phone, because digital zoom is kind of BS.
Between my 5x periscope and the digital zoom I can be like 50 feet away from a light switch and tell you what kind of screws are holding the cover plate on.
The color of that peach fuzz reminds me of the rotary in our kitchen where I lived as a kid. An option besides black or white is nice!
Has moto said how long OS and security support will be? Might be a deal breaker for me.
They offer 3-4 years of OS and security updates on the edge 50 pro. So, expect that at the minimum.
Looks fine, but the Edge 50 Pro is a monental downgrade over its own predecessor.
Vegan leather 🤣
