And yes you have to spend it all

Edit: There are a lot of little good things in these answers that I often ignore. Thanks everyone.

    A cheap pair of earbuds.

I lose and break them all the time, so I don’t buy nice ones, and I don’t get around to replacing them until I’m really desperate. I think it’s close to that time, because I tried to think of something that would make me happy right now, and my first thought was music

It depends on what I’m trying to maximize.

If I just want the happiness spike ASAP, then I would just buy $15 worth of Magic cards, or maybe a booster pack or three, depending on the set.

If I’m trying to maximize my overall happiness over any amount of time, I think spending $15 on something reusable, like a nice pair of socks or a hat would work out for me.

If I want to maximize happiness in general, then spending it on someone else I care about does double duty. It makes someone else happy, and I get happiness from being involved in the process.

Darn Tough socks on sale. Merino wool, so you dont have to wash them every time if you use wool wash and air then out (and don’t wear then without shoes (dirt)), and a lifetime warranty. Now that’s a nice $15 pair of socks.

Save it until I can afford to spend it in a 3rd world country for at least 5x the return value

Go somewhere further away by a coach bus. Or maybe a 1st class train ticket (as a student I can travel in 2nd class for free in most trains).

I like travelling. Just sitting in a bus/train doing nothing.

That’s good, but 2 lattes and 2 croissants here would be $16 plus tax and tip.

Lattes only with tax and tip are pretty close to $15 and would be my choice. Well, I’d get a latte for her and a cortado with half n half for me.

    What a cool question, actually.

In my current situation? Probably a coffee date with someone new.

In a hypothetical “blank slate” scenario? Some easy way to play music. An mp3 player or something among those lines.

Alternatively - I could absolutely purchase a used dumb phone for that amount of money, as well as free calls within network for a year (in my country).

There’s an independent coffee shop in the park by me, so a cappuccino, a big slice of carrot cake and just enough change for a lottery ticket.
