I avoid modern pop music in general… But I’m sorry, I will always have a soft spot for “Baby one more time” by Britney.
I would add “I want it that way” but let’s be real, every dude secretly likes that song.
Attributing gender to someone’s song preferences has to be the strangest example of mental gymnastics I’ve seen for a while.
Meh, there’s a ton of songs written strictly from female perspectives or with a female audience in mind. From Peggy Lee to the Spice Girls and so on.
I feel like they apply as “Girl Songs”.
Not how I personally interpreted the question, but that’s a fair point.
Even if that’s the case though, I don’t see why anyone would have to keep it a secret. To quote a favourite ‘girl song’ of mine…“Why’d you have to go and make things so complicated?”
Being insecure isn’t teenager exclusive, I guess.
I think OP is just asking the age-old question of “what is you guilty pleasure pop-song”. Just very poorly worded. I’m not gonna hold that against 'em.
Are you new to the whole “human” thing? We gender absolutely everything.
Not as much in English compared to some other (mostly European) languages
🤦🏽♂️
Pretty Girl Rock by Keri Hilson is a fucking jam
“Best Thing I Never Had” by Beyonce. Does it qualify?
Max Martin is the genius working behind most of the artists mentioned in this thread. The dude is a total hit parade machine and the fact that no one said his name tells me a lot about how music is perceived in the mainstream.
Yeah I saw that YouTube short too dude. But nobody cares about writers
What short?
Possibly because this thread is about the songs, not the producers, but please I would absolutely love for you to expand on what it tells you about how music is perceived in the mainstream, should my eyes ever stop spinning like a one armed bandit.
No need to be sarcastic, I’m not attacking anyone on a personal level.
I know this thread is about songs, in fact I wanted to give credit to the people who actually had an active part in writing these songs (not just producing).
I know people cannot always credit every member working behind a piece of music, like it’s a scientific paper, but if you’re a lover of this art sometimes is nice to stop and be curious about who these people are and how they work. If you don’t you’re just a consumer, which is fine but you’re missing a big part of the process.
Pretty much anything by Marina and the Diamonds. Specifically Pimadonna Girl, though.
My wife got me into Rihanna, and Lana Del Ray.
Lovefool by The Cardigans

Going back a few years I loved 90s Mariah Carey and Jewel. Fiona Apple’s debut album was instrumental in my life. Nowadays, I am not a super fan or anything but I enjoy and have very high opinions of T Swift, Gaga, Beyoncé and many other.
My daughter recently introduced me to Chappell Roan and damn she’s amazing.

It’s raining men
Man! I feel like a woman!
Tons of great “girl” songs that I’ll belt when they come on. Besides all the Broadway and show tunes that I love.
Music is music. A good song transcends girl or boy.
I normally listen to heavy metal, rock maybe nerdcore rap. The other night, I was alternating between the albums of Natalie Imbruglia and Melanie Chisholm. There’s some good stuff in there.
Speaking of Heavy Metal and Natalie Imbruglia. I really liked Steve Welsh’s “If Korn wrote Torn”

Secretly? My Type by Saweetie. Trashiest lyrics you’ve ever heard but it really helps energize me in the mornings

Pretty much anything by Birthday Massacre.
Every so often I listen to Lady Gaga. I really like a few of her earlier songs but haven’t listened to most of her discography.
I hate that music and gender are somehow connected, but unfortunately that’s the world we live in. Anyone who gives me crap for listening to/doing/etc. “girly” things is a person I don’t want in my life.
Unfortunately I have experienced this quite a lot. I was even shamed for wearing the color pink, and that was a shirt for males specifically and they still thought it was “girly”. Also, I was a brony at one point (not anymore), yep, you can guess what happened.
