Started using lemmy.dbzer0.com as my primary instance. Noticed on the right hand side they have their rules listed.

Is dbzer0 not aware that his instance is CHOCK FULL of tankie shit and porn?

Did you like tell them? Have you been reporting it?

I’m not going to dog pile on a specific instance so the rest of my comments are general.

As of all things rules and intentions are different than reality and actions. You judge an organization and community based on their actions not their intentions.

This is so important to know, because it matters if this is from willful negligence or simply because no one has brought it up and the instance admin(s) think it’s smooth sailing.

In addition, I think the fediverse is early enough that it’s totally okay to shop around and jump instances if you don’t like the vibe.

        This,

And you can delete your account too, that will remove your data from the instance, to not be associated with them.

A lot of them have rules just for the apparences, but they don’t apply them.

        Its like green washing etc.

        Words =/= Acts

I’m not talking about db0 though, its an general observation,

Oh absolutely, I’m not on a crusade against mods or instance hosters, it’s just like, hey, your rules are being FLAGRANTLY broken.

Hexbear is an extremely well known tankie community, I’m just surprised that dbzer0 federated them when they have a rule against Tankies.

  • Mods and admins can’t be everywhere all the time. Report it so they have a better chance of seeing it. And even then, don’t expect instant results; the admin and mod numbers aren’t nearly as high as they were on Reddit.

Can you report entire instances? Because he’s federated instances which primary focuses are porn and Tankie discussion. Might just bounce.

So, you’re complaining about federation with instances that have different rules, not content on dbzer0 itself?

Yeah, that’s not going to happen. If every rule has to be a perfect match there would be no federation, just a bunch of isolated siloes.

You can block communities you don’t like. That’s the beauty of the Fediverse. No need to make it useless for everyone else instead.

Idk about the porn, but for the tankie thing, it’s probably because it’s just a political insult that doesn’t have any real meaning like “libshit”, “demonrat”, etc so enforcement is very subjective

I’m also not on dbzer0 so take my comment with a grain of salt

“Tankie” has a reasonably specific meaning. Tankies are apologists for authoritarian regimes that are typically communist (or formerly, or nominally).

It seems simple enough, but what constitues “authoritarian” or even “communist” always changes from person-to-person

As an instance admin… this just is about their instance. Not the entire fediverse. We’d have to not federate for you to never see any of that kind of stuff. Sounds like you just need to do a little bit more reading about how this all works.

At least to me, I need to re-read a few times to get that it is double negative. Which seems opposite. ( I am not native speaker of English)

Reminder that any kind of rule or law is at most an agreement or at least a suggested guideline.

People are free to break any laws, Anarchy remains preserved in the nature of our consciousness.

The willingness of people to follow these guidelines are a mix of genuine agreement and the consequences from any enforcement.

Enforcement (moderation) is scares at the moment. We can just wait till moderation matures. But in the meantime i would also vouch for open discussions about what best practices near everyone can agree on.
