From what I understand, the insurance is against the cap. Haslam does still have to pay Watson’s salary, but the team gets a cap credit next year for the amount they insured. I think how much Haslam pays for the insurance premium may go against the cap, but it’s hard to nail down solid info about this stuff.
My only regret is that insurance will pick up the tab and it’s not coming out of Haslem’s pocket.

If you tried viewing the Niners cap and the hit by player per year made no sense to me. No clue how it works
