Found this while trying to figure out if, like 19 in cribbage, there is an impossible score in NFL rules football.
It shows all possible score combinations and which have happened - or not.
Technically, a team can score any number (til a team can have a score of 1). But, games cannot have certain scores. A 2-2 game is possible, but has never happened. 1-(1 to 5) is impossible. But 6-1 is.
*I edited because i got the ‘how to score 1 point’ wrong
And as the linked page itself points out, everyone should go watch the excellent video that launched the Scorigami concept
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe a returned PAT would be 2, because it would be treated as a 2 point conversion for the defense.
To get a single point, you need to score a safety on the PAT against the team that just scored a TD. This would require the football going the length of the football field (either it gets fumbled and batted away the length of the field which happened to Ole Miss a few years ago, or the defense returns the ball and fumbles near the endzone). Then the offense recovers the ball in the endzone, resulting in a PAT safety against the offense.
As far as I know, it’s the only way to have a single point.
Yeah, I probably misunderstood the whole how to.
Sorry.
The fact that’s possible is still weird.
