This is worrying because reddit is basically the first search result of every google search right now
Meh, it’s also usually useless. Much less useful then it had been in the past. I honestly have more luck with gpt then scrolling through dead posts with 1 response that I have to load twice because anything other than old reddit is a psychic attack that will wound me.
Not saying it’s useful, but will lead to reddit gaining users who are then influenced by the right wing bullshit they come across.
Welcome to America. I watched my dad get indoctrinated from ages 14 to 30. It started after a bad divorce and I often wonder if there was ever a real, living, thinking, adventurous, person under there. He has so many story’s of his extraordinary past but I look at him today and he’s just a cog collecting garbage. If I had the financial freedom he managed to weasle out through inheritance and disability I would break down walls.
Sorry, got distracted, my point is it doesn’t take a rabbit hole through some reddit link to fall into conservative media. They literally pump it out into the airwaves for anyone with a am radio to consume endlessly.
If there is any hope for future generations it will be the tradition of Americans to flip the table and fuck shit up. Unfortunately the GOP co-opted those types and are winning on that front too.
Will be interesting to watch their fall from grace. The ones who make it out. No more interesting then watching the fuck ups that escape the Mormon church, or anything of the sort, though.
Ughhh. It’s insane to me how few comments Reddit loads by default now.
surely you don’t go to the comments section because you want to see comments? you go there because you want post recommendations, right? please click on the recommended posts
So many good answer are buried under few levels of comments, Really can’t have collective knowledge fall into some parasite’s hands like that again. I bet many people are here for that reason.
Well, it was the birthplace of t_d… not like it didn’t have lots of right wing voices before.
I’m familiar with t_d. They have always been there but they would sequester themselves to right wing spaces. Election time they’d come out their hidey holes but were very easy to spot.
Not that I disagree with you that they are becoming more prominent, but I think we are also definitely still in the aftermath of ‘election time’
“Going to?”
One of the reasons I came to Lemmy was because I was tired of their rhetoric. It became very sexist and racist. Not to mention is almost all bots just posting and replying to each other. Reddit was turning into cesspool ages ago.
It was the firing of Victoria in 2015 that was a noticeable enshitification moment for me, perhaps followed by the 2016 election where people seemed to lose the ability to have a discussion altogether (increase of bots no doubt not helping). But the worsening trends were there before hand, these were just moments of acceleration.
Not my eyes
Not just right wing voices emerge, democratic people now see it’s pointless to argue. Which is the much bigger damage. Imagine what happens when people no longer fight back. We live in post-factual times, it’s over.
Not to be “that guy,” but it really has been happening for quite awhile now (/r/thedonald as one example). And I agree it seems inevitable that it will only get worse.
Reddit is the past.
Honestly seeing how much shitty Reddit has become has made me realise, how better off I am now by quitting all the major social media platforms. We definitely need to start popularising alternative to the mainstream social media platforms esp as the major ones are super prone to disinformation and stuff, due to capitalistic interests etc.
Agreed. Lemmy is still coming along nicely, we’ve got a good suite of apps to choose from now, and features are steadily being added. It’s significantly more ready for primetime than it was a year ago. Still a WIP of course, but useability is decent.
Not sure if this will work, reddit isn’t shittier just from corporate interest instead is all these things too: community , ai automated bots, and advertising. Now if Lemmy court the eye of bad actors I would fear our moderation may struggle with keeping bad actor bots from our platform, same goes for instance administrators and community moderators, what systems do we really have to keep them in check?
The amount of content about Israel/Palestine that is swamped by Zionists on Reddit would imply that it is mostly already far right. The latest being the attempts to control the narrative of what happened in Netherlands around the football match. But not sure anyone believes the Zionist side of that one.
The stuff coming from r normaldayinrussia was concerning and this was pre election.
It’s been that way unfortunately.
Perhaps all the bots pushing her campaign got shut down, and the site is now organic again?
There’s no way r/all was that interested in her campaign to start with. The past couple of weeks have been super weird. I check the top 10 post on r/all regularly to see if anything special is going on in the world as i can’t be bothered doom scrolling news sites.
All that’s been on the top is how amazing she is and awful he is. I highly doubt the average user is that invested in the topic.
Because there weren’t any fascist bots?
That’s why you should be absent from reddit in the first place. Lp
Not the first time, same thing happened in 2016
2016 was an absolute shit show on Reddit. It was a dogfight between the Bernie Bros and the Trumpers until Bernie got knocked out of the primaries then knocked off Reddit by CTR. Then it was a dogfight between the ShillDawgs and the MAGAts with the t_d’ers eventually coming out on top because of their willingness to endlessly game the Reddit algorithm.
Remember how furious people got that they removed a subreddit entirely dedicated to bullying fat people?
Yes I do.
I remember a friend of mine had a pic of herself stolen and someone slapped a caption on it saying something like “people tell me I look like Ariana Grande” and it was uploaded there. I heard about it and then a few months or years later saw it got reposted. Absolutely insane shit.
This unfortunately
I’m on Reddit way less than I use to
There are many legitimate reasons to not use Reddit
Are you sure that isn’t just bot regurgitating comment from a year or two ago?
I’m sure of nothing.
