Honestly, since it’s between North America and South America – I’m kind of indifferent about it. It being called Gulf of Mexico or Gulf of America isn’t going to really change anything.

it’s between North America and South America

You’re thinking of the Caribbean sea, the gulf of Mexico is bounded by the united states to the north, Florida and Cuba to the east and Mexico to the south and west.

It being called the gulf of Mexico or gulf of America isn’t really going to change anything

It will literally require changing every map and GIS database in the country. Think of all the work NOAA will have to do deal with this BS. Even besides the annoyance and cost of updating all of those it will cause confusion with the rest of the world who will still call it the gulf of Mexico.

I dunno - why do you change your style of clothes in different seasons?

Because you want to. Does it need a greater explanation than that?

I’m down to clown when it comes to criticizing Trump for shit, but this realistically isn’t going to do anything except make people big mad, for reasons they can’t actually explain. If “your” candidate (whoever that is) wanted to do it, you’d make excuses for why it was a perfectly okay thing to do. I’m just reasonable and realize it doesn’t really fucking matter. In 4 years it’ll change back to Gulf of Mexico, and nobody will even remember it was a thing in 20.

So why let this rage bait drive you?

They honestly feel a bit like a satirical version of North Korea by isolating themselves with certain policies, and making crazy threats to anyone they can.

What till y’all find out they label Nihon as “Japan”.

Google’s doing what they always do, following official government naming conventions. If, and when, the US officially changes the name, they will follow suit.

Personally, I’d rather they get their back up and say “no”, but at least they’re being internally consistent.

Guess they’ll do anything to appease the new self appointed co-dictators of North America…

You can change the maps to suck up to the Orange Idiot, but you can’t make people actually call it that.

When they do it, We need to encourage people to report it as incorrect information. If everyone does it then it may be enough for show we don’t want this and don’t want to be seen as the fools the White House actually is.

Don’t forget the other random renaming he did, Denali. It’ll always be Denali to myself and the climbing community.

    1. It sounds snappier than McKinley
    2. It actually had that name before. It wasn’t just pulled out of thin air to be PC.
    3. McKinley had nothing to do with the area, he was gov of Ohio. He never even visited it, it was just named after him to curry favor with him.

No, see y’all’ve got it backwards. It’s the Gulf of America, not the Gulf of the United States of America. He’s making it more inclusive!
