why would you leave reddit just to talk about reddit
Why would you come to c/reddit just to ask why someone would talk about reddit
That’s perfectly reasonable, no? See c/reddit on my frontpage, click and ask why
Perfectly reasonable for frolicing with smug delight.
Project what you will and downvote like the redditor you are, but nobody has answered the question.
Because it’s a topic worth discussing to those interested and it’s just unfortunate that the redditor you are is here.
It’s really not, an article every now and then when there is something notable, sure, but an entire community with numerous posts a day with enough attention to get on my unrelated feed is not “worth”
Which is fine, I’m not trying to yuck the yums of anyone, I’m just asking why. Why obsess over a website you used to use?
People just like to talk about things, especially things they may have some connection to.
It makes sense to have a place to do that. Otherwise, some wanker would come by and shit in the pool because people are talking about it elsewhere. Probably tell them to go create a sub for it or some shit while they huff their own.
I’m familiar with the forces that are behind the creation of new communities, I’m asking why so many people want to talk about a website they have specifically divested from
Because we can’t talk about reddit on reddit
If you’ve replaced the functionality of reddit in your life, and reddit itself is heading in a direction you don’t approve of, why continue discussing it?
Why not? Is not like they are banning here for discussing Reddit.
Because why discuss something that’s not in your life anymore, why make/join a community dedicated to something you’re NOT doing anymore?
are you saying you never bitch about things in the past, like shitty jobs or school or something. And besides, back on reddit (new here so idk what kind have formed yet) there were plenty, like exmormom, stopdrinking, etc
Bitch about things, sure, but I’m not gonna join c/KFC and participate in daily circlejerking about how much working at KFC sucked
Okay but you see how those are different, right? Comparing using reddit to a high-control religion or alcoholism isn’t a bit much?
For me, it’s because I invested 13 years into that website, as a mostly-apolitical, slightly left-of-center normie; and then one day they decided that saying “we need to be punching Nazis” or “fuck Elon” is somehow too extreme now, and something we don’t talk about anymore (even in hypotheticals or semi-jest - I mean most of us are just keyboard warriors ffs, and we ain’t out there punching anybody).
Back in my day, saying “we should punch Nazis” was a good thing.
So yeah, I harbor some resentment. I lost some connections with some nerdy, niche, non-political interests and hobbies of mine, just because I hate Fascism so, so very much, and I was willing to say so.
So, fuck them.
funny thing is your not allowed to discuss reddit bans on reddit, which will result in you get banned down the line.
Happened to me. I didn’t say anything too radical (something about punching Nazis), but discussing the temporary ban resulted in a permanent ban.
They’re really clamping down on people saying not-very-radical anti-Fascist things.
Good riddance.
For the same reason we talked on reddit about twitter and facebook all the time. It were previous systems some of us spend the better part of a decade on. It is interesting to share the impression while watching together the Vesusvius erupting and sealing Pompeii and discussing its last chapter.
People said the same thing around the API changes, and it seems more like being bitterly obsessed with an ex. Would I love to see the downfall of any major social media site? Sure, but that’s different than being part of a community that is constantly discussing a website you used to go to.
These things take time. I was a reddit user for 10+ years and left 3 years ago. Since then, reddit is in a downspiral. Whenever I visit Reddit (I still do, without an account) I can hardly recognize the place. There is no hourly changing Frontpage anymore. I sometimes see things that are 1-2 days old. Crazy worn down place.
Why you click on this if you do not want to participate? I have no interest in this discussion with you. If you need the reddit falldown happen in the timespan of a tiktok video, this is up to you. Rome didnt burned down in a day. Those system erode, corrode and fall apart over long times.
Because I find it odd to find reddit on my frontpage multiple days a week when I was glad to leave it and associated behavior behind.
You’re not understanding at all, I don’t know how you interpreted my words to mean that I am merely impatient.
