I wonder how they’ll feel once Mosques and the Satanic Temples start doing that.

Easy, they’ll deem them not churches, and tax the shit out of them.

Unfortunately we’ve seen over and over again that they are very narrow in what they accept as protected religious belief. Because they don’t really care about freedom or the first amendment, just coercing their particular beliefs on others

Wull, you see, The Satanic Temple didn’t exist back when English common law ruled colonial America. Ipso facto, it doesn’t exist.

“Bona fide communications internal to a house of worship, between the house of worship and its congregation, in connection with religious services, do neither of those things, any more than does a family discussion concerning candidates,”

So… can I register my family as a nonprofit?

Time to start a church. One that actually performs charity.

This could actually backfire because the Evangelicals were already doing this. Perhaps the more liberal churches, although dwindling with membership, which had refrained will feel free to badmouth Trump using his name.

Is it bad that I had already assumed that this was happening all along? I feel like evangelical megachurches and politics have been joined at the hip for a while now. I guess a formal endorsement is a different thing than just complaining about who is/isn’t in power, but still…

Yes, politicians were afraid to do anything about it for decades. It was a wink wink arrangement. Now it will be more official
