It’s not just ER. Family medicine, dental, vision, full cancer treatment, palliative care… It’s all free, including drugs, for every human, citizen or otherwise, legal or otherwise. There was a conscious decision not to restrict healthcare access and not to employ people to restrict access.
I dont have private healthcare and our health srvice is shit but I have mever put my hand in my pocjet beyond parking for any pregnancy related anything, and my kids have been to GPs and A&E without charge.
Technically you don’t have to. People have been having children since at least the 1500s, and they didn’t have medicade. There is nothing illegal about simply having a baby.
Having to pay, to give birth, sounds shocking to some if not even many civilized countries
