The Democratic representative-elect won her Arizona seat overwhelmingly. But so far, the Republican speaker will not swear her in.
Being seated should not have a delay and have a clock of 48hr post-election. Full stop.
So, doesn’t this mean the residents of her district don’t have to pay taxes this year since they are not represented?
Kind of a fun loophole that our government gives individuals the ability to completely implode the democratic process for purely partisan reasons and with no reasonable mechanisms of accountability. Send the capitol police in to arrest Mike Johnson for betraying his oath of office and have the minority leader swear her in.
Similar to leaving the FEC being left without a quorum so it can’t do its job.
The Republicans shut down the government to prevent the release of the Epstein files.
At any point, they can vote to pass the budget and open the government again. The Republicans have the votes and enough time has passed that they no longer need a 2/3rds majority.
The Republicans have 100% control over this situation, don’t let anyone think otherwise.
It’s been long enough that only a simple majority is needed? Source?
Consistency has, somewhat ironically, never been a hallmark of conservative politics. The good ol days where great, but let’s not have a discussion about THOSE parts of them.
Perhaps one of the largest differences between the parties is that while conservatives try and mask and claim their bad past was no big deal, liberals typically admit they fucked up and look to improve.
