Comey said in the video that he wants a trial, but every lawyer seems to think he’d be making a huge mistake if he doesn’t simply move to dismiss, since there is absolutely no case.

When Comey’s attorneys get access to the grand jury transcript, there’s even a possibility of huge repercussions for Lindsey Halligan, if she didn’t, for example, tell the grand jury that the star witness has already gone on the record as saying that the particulars in the indictment didn’t actually happen.

Could him going on trial be a way to expose new information about Trump or someone else that wasn’t possible before?

He can let the cat out of the bag as part of his defense kinda thing.

        https://www.forbes.com/sites/alisondurkee/2025/09/26/heres-what-james-comey-said-that-got-him-indicted-and-the-evidence-that-hurts-trumps-case/

Comey was indicted on charges of making a false statement to Congress and obstructing a Congressional proceeding, based on an exchange the former FBI director had during his testimony on Sept. 30, 2020.

Comey testified at the time that he had not authorized anyone to leak FBI information to the press, telling Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, he stood by earlier testimony he gave in 2017, when Comey answered “no” after being asked if he had “ever authorized someone else at the FBI to be an anonymous source in news reports about the Trump investigation or the Clinton investigation.”

The indictment alleges Comey’s testimony was “false” because “he in fact had authorized PERSON 3 to serve as an anonymous source in news reports regarding an FBI investigation concerning PERSON 1.”

Based on the details of the indictment, person 3 must be Andrew McCabe.

As part of the inspector general’s 2018 investigation into McCabe, the former FBI official testified he “did not recall” telling Comey about the leak before the Journal piece was published. He acknowledged “it’s possible” he did, but said he did not believe he told Comey, because the FBI chief was “very, very occupied” at the time and McCabe had been traveling. McCabe testified he did tell Comey about the leak the day after the piece was already published, and Comey “did not react negatively, just kind of accepted it.”

I don’t know that the article has all of the facts, but McCabe never said that Comey authorized anything about the leak. The only thing he’s spoken about is whether he disclosed his actions to Comey. Additionally, I think McCabe has actually said that Comey did not authorize him to make the leak, but it is not in that article. It may have not been part of testimony.

Thank you! Based on other cases from this administration I’d be shocked if they actually had evidence of wrongdoing. Their political cases are always built on lies or distortions and nothing more.

Grand Jury testimony is kept confidential until trial. The sooner it goes to trial, the sooner it will be out in the open.

A plurality, 33%, described it as politically motivated, while 22% labeled it as an earnest attempt to expose the truth. Fourteen percent said both of these were factors, and 30% said they were not sure.

Most Democrats and a plurality of independents — 56% and 33%, respectively — characterized the indictment as driven by politics. A 41% plurality of Republicans said it is a serious endeavor.

I think some of 30% of answering not sure are just as confused as Comey’s defense lawyers about what exactly the charges entail. I still don’t know how he obstructed anything so it’s hard to evaluate the merits.

If Trump says a person did something, they almost certainly did the opposite of that, based on the track record

I assume the admin will seek to make this process take as long as they possibly can to make comey retain a lawyer indefinitely
