“We think we’re on the cusp of the next evolution, where AI happens not just in that chatbot and gets naturally integrated into the hundreds of millions of experiences that people use every day,” says Yusuf Mehdi, executive vice president and consumer chief marketing officer at Microsoft, in a briefing with The Verge. “The vision that we have is: let’s rewrite the entire operating system around AI, and build essentially what becomes truly the AI PC.”
…yikes
Please stop! I can only love my Linux machines so much!
Similar systems are being worked on for Linux too.
Yeah, but we have a choice as to whether we want to run it or not.
Same with Windows. I can enable and disable various input features on Windows, why wouldn’t this be something that could be disabled too?
…Oh you sweet summer child.
The closest thing to this right now is Copilot Vision, which is entirely configurable.
Sure, but you don’t have control. If Microsoft decides that you are not allowed to disable this any longer, you will be left with no true choice.
That’s what Google does with Android, bending everyone to their will, not caring how we feel about any of their policies.
Why would MS be different? Just look at the numerous features Windows 11 removed as compared to 10. Did they give me a choice? Or what about their promise that Windows 10 will be the last Windows? Or what about them forcing people to buy new hardware to run Windows 11?
Trying to disable this stuff ultimately just sugarcoats the ever growing frustrations of using a system that locks down further with every passing year.
Yep. It gets exhausting how much effort it takes on part of the user to find a way to not have to use a Microsoft account and disable all the things they don’t want. LTSC makes it easier but that isn’t even a version Microsoft makes easily available, so once again users have to jump through so many hoops trying to retrieve a verified iso and activate it.
Meanwhile Linux is pick a distro among many that appeals to you and get going. It makes Microsoft feel like they hate its userbase and views them as nothing more than data to collect and sell.
Linux isn’t a single distro though so just hop to one that doesn’t have it for those who don’t want it.
