I just feel like it’s just going to go back to pretrump life if protesting works. Which is better socially but not the goal imo. There’s been something wrong with america for a long time and nothing ever really changes. It’s always the two sides toying with peoples hopes and dreams for their own agendas derailing progress and replacing it with escapism and false hope.
I think it’s all broken to the core and there are so many bandaids on this carcass trying to mask the fact it’s already dead. And the death of it is deeply engrained and intertwined in the American lifestyle and culture of our living.
I don’t disagree that the America we knew is done. However, protests allows people to network together - to see others are concerned and want change. This will be important for fostering the new civilizations that arise from the ashes of American society. I want Thiel’s Praxis to fail, and many democracies to emerge.
I think we’ll get to something closer to European-style democratic socialism, and that will be measurably better than what we’ve had for average people, but it will have been an awful lot of pain to get even that far. A stronger socialist base, one where the workers properly seize the means of production, is not going to happen.
I say this because the Republican Party will tear itself apart with internal factions as soon as Trump is gone. The Democratic leadership won’t know what to do with voters who actually expect them to do something. They may become the conservative party by staying exactly where they are, or they may also collapse. Either way, American conservatism as we know it will die as a meaningful political force.
If we want better than that, then giant protests need to be happening weekly, if not daily. The organization around it then needs to look to escalate things towards a general strike. I severely doubt this will happen.
We need to break from the sociopathic “morality” that many have here. We need to remember that everyone deserves a degree of dignity and to not shit all over each other.
