Has anyone had any success desensitising a dog to fireworks? Our rescue dog is terrified of fireworks, and will hide under the bed. We’ve tried doing desensitisation by playing fireworks sounds on a speaker, but he can tell they’re not the real thing.
I’ve been struggling with noise sensitivity in my dog for 8 years. Even saw an animal behaviourist. Unfortunately the only thing that’s worked, is drugs. He’s on a daily dose of Prozac (fluoxetine) and I keep some gabapentin on hand for Halloween night so he can just sleep through it.
When he hears a trigger he just wants to drag me home. There’s no reasoning with him, it’s just immediate panic.
