It’s absolutely a Nazi salute. I’m about 90% sure he did it the way he did just to stir the shit because he’s an attention seeking asshole wanting to be the main character. Only 10% remaining because he doesn’t think he’s a Nazi despite sharing a shitload of their fascist traits.

He did it twice very emphatically with anger in his face. He did it as an act of defiance. The only way it makes sense is if he was using it as his public declaration that he was with the nazis.

In my opinion, Musk does not consider himself a Nazi, despite his involvement in far right causes and patent racism.

I think he just can’t stand the idea of a world where other people can tell him what he can and can’t do. This was him going out there to show the world, “I can do whatever I want” with the most extreme example he could come up with. The “lol you call everyone a Nazi” trolling afterwards was icing on the cake for him.

I say this not to excuse or condone this in any way. It clearly was 100% intended as a Nazi salute.

He’s a pathetic creep whose mental development stopped in adolescence. See also: Stephen Miller.

IDK if you surround yourself with nazis, use your wealth and influence to further their power, and then do a fucking nazi salute I’m not sure what to call you but a nazi.

Maybe not an “ideological” nazi, but he’s definitely in the party…

It feels so weird to call this controversial. Doesn’t that usually mean something similar to “polarising”? Who are on the poles here? Nazis, and the rest of the world?

From the wiki entry, “…interpreted by many as a Nazi or fascist” salute. It’s like, yeah I guess it was interpreted by many that way, in the same way many people interpret water to be wet.

Why are the writers of this wiki entry giving so much wiggle room for Nazis? What the fuck?

It’s “controversial” because Nazism has somehow became acceptable to a considerable chunk of the population, who publicly deny it, thus creating “controversy”.

Because Wikipedia is “leftist propaganda”, and they’ll be sued for libel the moment they declare him a Nazi.

The Romans didn’t even use it. It’s from a French painting of Rome that became popular after the revolution. It existed for barely a hundred years, and was hardly used by anyone, until it was adopted by fascists and Nazis.

Really could use Occam’s razor with this bullshit. If you gotta make so many assumptions, then you’re likely not on the correct path.

Elon musk is a Nazi who did a Nazi gesture. Simple as.

A part of me suspects that he tried to do that thing the cool kids do, “dabbing or something like that”, but couldnt remember exactly how; then saw that everyone mistook it for something even “cooler”, the nazi dab, and went with it.

Please correct me, but as far as I know, Elon Musk has never explicitly denied that it was a Nazi salute. He never said the words “it was not” or anything similar. He has called accusers ridiculous, talked about a gesture being meaningless, and made Holocaust jokes.

Imagine thinking Musk is intentionally doing a Nazi salute. Such unbelievable nonsense.

After being in front of a thousand crowds, denouncing Nazis, and being critical of the government, he wanted to show everyone he’s actually a Nazi, just this once, with absolutely no upside in sight? Why would a massive capital holder, passionate about his businesses, want to hand over corporate control to fascist authoritarians? He constantly bashes the two-party status quo, government mismanagement of money, and fantasizes about the rise of a third party.

Fascism is a capitalist ideology they use to suppress the working class when we threaten the status quo.

Also, the Nazis didn’t just nationalize industries, they nationalized industries that they had sabotaged, so that they could then hand them over to their cronies - other businessmen. Sound familiar?

Fascism is capitalist only insofar as they give some deference to the “private” owner, but there is no proper respect for private property. Otherwise, the government controls all “private property” for national purposes. China is a fascist contemporary, marketing itself as communism (like Nazis did with socialism). But in reality, private property is being seized for the nation, not for the working class.

Musk in no way want to give over his companies to any government.

imagine watching a person do a nazi salute, twice, and then writing this nonsense. imagine being this unimaginative or this ignorant of history; “Why would a massive capital holder, passionate about his businesses, want to hand over corporate control to fascist authoritarians?” and writing it down for the entire thread to see how ignorant and unimaginative you are. just imagine bro

Private property owners of his level are not exactly keen on giving government control of their stuff.

You don’t need to teach history. Just name a single thing Musk would have to gain from giving control of his capital to a fascism government? He’s already on track to become a trillionaire without them. He has everything to lose, and I see nothing to gain.

Now, a capitalist who is not so successful, could potentially gain a lot from fascist corporatism, so it’s worth the risks of losing it.
