Bot speak. Fuck, I hate how much Im recognising this now. Overly generic outrage, region tag virtue signalling, generic emotional framing, it all hits various points of popular karma farming.

Can you elaborate or double check? I looked through their profile and they appear human. But things are changing fast I’m always eager to learn new clues to detect this stuff.

I already did. Go to reddit, look at any “AITA” post and look how its worded. How the language flows. You can see the fingerprints of an AI constructed sentence. Theres an uncanny valley feel to them. It sounds like something a person would say, but its more deliberate. Practiced. Vague.

“Absolutely disgusting.(vague outrage) This is such a massive issue here in Latin America(region tag virtue signal), I hate how scared I have to be all the time of the men around me.(personal vulnerability + generalised fear + gender violence)”. Its all very emotional, but vague. Lacking context to connect to the OP. You could copy and paste this, maybe change the region, and you can apply to any post about sexual assault. But fuck me, it sure does suck up the upvotes, dont it?

I agree with your characterization except for the part suggesting they’re a bot or AI. I think they’re a human just used to making empty comments on social media.

The person who is the worst about it on Lemmy is MyOpinion. Their name is accurate, they just drop two sentences of half a thought on what seems like half the newsy posts I read.
