I asked a genuine question and had replies that ignored the question I asked and insulted me and said my question was stupid. My reply telling them to stop being rude and answer the question if they want to comment was removed by the mods.

Some communities have downvoting disabled, but as an alternative to downvoting, you can also just not upvote the comment or report it if it actually breaks rules. I don’t think being rude in the comments is against the rules, but it isn’t nice, so I usually just ignore those comments.

Being rude, in and of itself, doesn’t break the rules in most communities. Some do say to argue in good faith or something to that effect, but none really outright ban rudeness. Maybe the “nice” communities where people go to get away from drama. I dunno. I don’t read a lot of sidebars. The way I try to conduct myself generally fits with a lot of communities. The ones it doesn’t, will kick me out. And that’s fine, to a point. I mean it’s not great but it’s also not the end of, well, anything.
