The Federal Aviation Administration’s unprecedented order to scale back flights nationwide because of the record-long government shutdown is set to take effect Friday morning.

The 40 airports selected by the FAA span more than two dozen states and include hubs such as Atlanta, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles and Charlotte, North Carolina, according to the order.

In some metropolitan areas, including New York, Houston, Chicago and Washington, multiple airports will be impacted, while the ripple effects could reach smaller airports as well.

Somehow, people are still flying… which boggles my mind. They’re seeing what’s happening. There was that plane crash that happened not that long ago. Also the collision with the military flying thing not that long ago either. People are still choosing to fly knowing of the current situation. Make it make sense to me.

The safety has gone from safer than driving to… still safer than driving. I’m much more worried about long lines and having flights cancelled, but work said I have to be in CA next week and I don’t have time to drive.

I don’t have patience to work a phone tree like my life depends on it so if they cancel my flight I’ll probably just go back home and tell them it’s the shutdown’s fault.
