The commenters all not realising this was posted to a meme community is 👌🏻
rather fitting, given the neurodiversity of we linux enjoyers

Not tryna drag OP in the slightest, but having a Google search tab open in a faang extermination meme blurs the messaging a bit.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
They are the meme
If you just want the speech, here: https://0x0.st/KWpS.webm
If you are wondering why yours didn’t work (I used your command exactly), maybe old
yt-dlp?$ yt-dlp --version 2025.11.12yt-dlp --version 2025.04.30Son of a fucking bitch. DEBIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!
I’m on Debian as well. No reason to run stable, unless you’re running some production box.
You would have to add the relevant backport repo to your apt sources. Your favorite search engine should help you figure out exactly how to do that on your system.
When I ran into this though, I uninstalled the apt version and downloaded the latest version directly from GitHub and installed it manually.
i know, i just thought it was funny, thanks…
I don’t know if you’ve fixed this but getting a burner account and extracting the cookies works. Just pass the cookie file to ytdlp and you’re good to go
well the ‘funny’ part of the meme is (supposed to be) the content of the link, which is the background… (including the frame it’s paused on).
also there was no issue with any other video
….
but really i just wanted to sample the audio for a thing, so im gonna look for a quality version
My package manager has an old version that doesn’t work. I had to download from a browser to get a working version.
YouTube change things on the back end so frequently that I bet there’s always at least one bleeding-edge distro that has an outdated yt-dlp in its repository.
But if you’re on a Debian / Ubuntu / Mint, yeah, you’re gonna have a bad time without the stand-alone version.
Either wait a while or access it from a different IP address. If you have both IPv4 and IPv6, try forcing it to use one or the other with the
-4and-6options.I’ve been making such good use of my VPN lately for this exact purpose.
Funnily, my home IP gets blocked often, even with lower than human-average traffic. My fathers home IP, where my piped proxy runs, so where all my PC/Laptop YT usage aggregates, plus his usage and others using my proxy, literally never gets blocked. Maybe because he watches it logged in, and so YT trusts the IPs more?
same, I find my self needing to use vpns to watch youtube
The format is missing. If you choose a specific format it should work
