Update - I got up and let him have the chair. Then I started working on the chores, the most important of which was cleaning our pellet stove. Before long, he was wandering around nearby, following me while I got tools. I finished, went back to my chair, and was about to sit down when he jumped into the chair.

So I picked him up, which he’s never a fan of, sat down, put him on my lap, and now he’s stretched out on my legs.

Oh I know, and I love him, too (along with the two others we have…and the two that have crossed that rainbow bridge).

I will miss him someday. I know it’s coming. I’m not ready. I never will be. We lost one five years ago, and I’m not ready to lose another one. Every time I see a reminder of his age I think, oh yeah.

Stitch should have many years left in him, he’s not young, but he’s not old either, but… We’ve had him about 9 years now, so he’s anywhere from 10 to 16. His medical issues are accumulating; I have to give him an inhaler every day along with a medicine in his ear. One of our other cats (currently on my arm) is likely a few years older (adopted 12 years ago, so anywhere from 13 to 18) and also requires daily pills for his thyroid. I don’t know which one we’ll lose first, but I hope it’s not for a long time.

Meanwhile, our young cat, Inky, who is about 5 years old, is just sitting at the base of the steps, staring at me, in the Egyptian cat pose. What did I do??
