I’m not sure why her ear is purple…

Just had to catch this PoL.

You know, I just asked someone who recently got inducted into the “Hall of Fame” of their craft.

And she said she sees “gold and blue”!!!

Now how do I reconcile that?

Like I know this person is so far and beyond, smarter than me. But she honestly sees something different‽

Peak cat content right here. That curled-up donut of fluff plus those immaculate pink beans made me involuntarily say a nonsense syllable out loud. Love at first snooze.

Ear looking purple is almost certainly lighting or camera white balance, maybe a purple phone case or lamp reflecting off the fur. If someone actually dyed a cat’s ear, I will be Very Online and Very Mad, but I 100% think this is just a weird light trick. Either way, adorable and protected. Boop incoming.

Her ear is purple because the light is coming from the right. The top of her ear is in shadow - but it’s also being lit from underneath, through the thin skin of her ears. And her ears are pink because of her skin color, her fur color, and the blood running through. Blue/twilight shading from being in the shade, mixed with being underlit with pink, is purple.

Does the camera you took the pic with do any kind of automatic correction / enhancement? This looks like the results you would get if the pic had warm artificial lighting, the colour temperature was shifted to make her fur neutrally white, and then the saturation was cranked up. That results in orange closest to the artificial light source (catching the strongest warm light, therefore keeping some orange when the temperature is shifted to make most of her fur look white again) and purple farthest from it (it wasn’t orange before, so the de-oranging just purplified it) and then the saturation increase exaggerates the effect

      Also Furryosa is very cute

I dunno why I’m thinking so much about this, but the purple is coming from one singular direction.

Can we talk about the yellow‽

        Where did it come from?

If the yellow is down to a directional light source (and I don’t have a better idea than that), I wonder if the white fur is reflecting a fair bit of it? It’s like how having a sheet of paper laying flat near a wall causes the bit of the wall above it to be a bit lighter. It still looks like the yellow is mostly on the opposite side to the purple, so I think it’s plausible

I specifically turn off anything “auto” in any and all settings given the option.

Here is one more more picture of her cuddling near me with all factors the same.

        No purple or yellow.

Sorry if I’m sounding combative. I’ve just been trying to figure out where the color came from and it’s frustrating me.

Don’t worry, I didn’t take it that way! Unfortunately I’m not knowledgeable enough on cameras to offer another guess besides that though
