Fosbury Flop’s “trick” is that while the traditional saddle technique required athletes to exert enough strength to put their centre of mass above the bar, in Fosbury Flop, the centre of mass at the apogee can be below the bar, inside the arch formed by the athletes back. It was quite a genius leap forward for the sport (pun intended and I’m not sorry).
I’ve not heard that term since PE in High School.
