They always enable fascists because they prefer fascism to socialism. The American people are left with a choice, either revolution, or submission. Fascism is the inevitable end point of capitalism. Power and wealth concentrates at the top while the rest of society is starved of resources, and those at the top use those resources to get the working class to fight amongst themselves, by blaming their failures on minority groups.
They don’t care. They will launder the reputation of Republicans and pardon many of them. Meanwhile any protesters against this will be shown no such mercy by the same democrats.

I would argue that fascism is the ultimate tool for capitalism, for the reasons that you outline.
