We could of course have get off of fossil fuels entirely; that would eliminate the need for this kind of war and the consequent crises that follow.
Or… we can go further with fossil fuels till oil breaks the roof, reaches the $200 mark and we do the green transition the painful way.

Probably. Drivers generally won’t tolerate going slower to save fuel. They become irrationally mad instead.
