Playing Need for Speed: Most Wanted on my PS2 and Sony Trinitron, even the calendar is form 2009

The room at my parents house seems permanently stuck in mid 2000s, too bad I can’t take the TV with me

Wow, you must have been rich in the 00s to have a Trinitron.

Just for reference, in 2004 Trinitrons were $800- $2000 USD depending on size, in today’s money that’s $1300- $3500 USD.

My dad told me that is the late 90s model. And Poland in the 90s was dirt poor, so it had to be very impressive back then.

We used it as the main TV till 2012 at least and it served as secondary for some more years after that.

I really wish someone could make a racing game akin to NFS II. The track design is incredible because they were able to completely skip all realism. Nothing ever since has achieved quite the same. Okay, Mario Kart and similar come kind of close, but what I really liked about NFS II was the combination of kind of serious cars, and absolutely exaggerated scenery.

Easily one of the best arcade racers ever created. It’s a shame that the remake sucked so hard.

I had that same TV. I had a aiwa surround sound system in my fists apartment, the TV was in an entertainment cabinet someone threw out and my speakers were on boxes. We would tune our cars and play grad turismo nonstop. I had the 3000gt, my buddy had the skyline and would beat me until I switched. Everyone would be laid out like seals when I woke up. The trinitron was the fancy one of that size. I then upgraded to the xbr 32 trinitron HD model later.

Urgh, my first NFS was High Stakes. That song, Callista has been living rent free in my head since highschool.

McLaren F1 GTR was my ride. My idiot younger brother swore by the Mercedes CLK GTR.

My first was Undercover on PSP, I played it for hours while waiting for my mom to pick me up from the school. Fun times

Oh nice! I’ve tried to play my PS2 slim yesterday, but it would read half of the discs I’ve tried. I think the Laser is on its way out. 🙁

That’s quite bad, on mine the second controller port doesn’t work. Fortunately the drive works fine.

      Maybe you could try FreeMcBoot

Now that you said it I think I got a FreeMcBoot memory card somewhere. Hmm, now I need to set up a smb1 server again.

I just run most of the games from a USB stick. I would go with an HDD, I have dozens of ~250 GB laying around, but I don’t have the network/HDD expansion, YET

I have a PS2 slim without the HDD bay and I’ve read that the USB 1.1 is slower than the 10 Mbit/s network connection. A PS2 fat with HDD bay would really be the best option.

I also heard that USB 1.1 is slow, but it seems faster than the DVD drive, and that’s my only comparison point. I was going to get the memory card to SD card adapter since I’ve read is faster, but I don’t care honestly.

Yeah, I lost interest in newer NFS releases and mostly play rally and simracing titles, now. I forgot how fun Most Wanted was.
