This was a CT scan, or even a specialised kind of CT scan. X-rays are involved, but an emusltion plate in 1905 isn’t going to get you a “3D mapping”.

A lot of the issue is the sheer density of nerves in a very small area that makes it hard to study from cadavers, and there aren’t large numbers of people getting them removed to study them that way either.
