It’s closely linked to the Christian culture. I think in Revelation or something Israel was the good guys during Armageddon, and the US wants to always be aligned with them for that reason. Whatever Israel does is “the good guys”. More nonsense from religion, yay.

They are experiencing a period of discipline outside of his will, just as they did in the OT. The Bible does teach God will ultimately redeem them but not before great suffering on their part, and it never suggests the nation is in anyway pleasing him before that.
