True story, I commented once that coffee made me tired and someone said “Typical ADHD” and it’s what lead to be eventually being medically diagnosed.

Counterpoint: being able to drink a cup of coffee then immediately take a nap leads to the most restful 20 minutes of sleep you’ll ever have.

Sure I’d rather be affected normally by caffeine, but at least it isn’t a total wash.

My oldest kid had their first Coke a couple weeks ago (also dx) and my wife freaked out when she realized the kid was having caffeine at 7pm after she had finished it. Guess who was the chillest in the whole family that night.

Goes out partying in the late 90’s.
    Stimulants were taken.
All my friends were wacked out. I got home and did chores.
So much coffee and cigarettes. My coding time was fueled by them.
I actually have a harder time sleeping without coffee, as the coffee quiets my brain a bit.

    Age 43: diagnosed AuDHD.
Psychiatrist: so I’m guessing you have an affinity for stimulants.
    Me: Ohhhhhhhh! That explains things.

Now I have a Concerta prescription, and can function like never before.

Same for me with nicotine too. Self medicating with both. Now just meds and caffeine.

I got diagnosed early and realised that if I started drinking coffee I would never stop. So I have yet to start on the coffee.
