Fediverse is worse than Reddit. Mod abuse, admin abuse, disinformation and people circle jerking each other off like they have it all figured out.

  • My country is easy to figure out and not really a secret and generally known for individual privacy laws. You can publicly record something, but only for as long as it does not violate the personal rights of someone - and yes, that still includes their privacy rights. The above example of directly recording or let alone profiling someone through “AI” is not legal without consent, and there’s also further laws regarding AI surveillance within the entirety of the EU. The same goes for publicly sharing such recordings online. You generally have to blur people’s faces and even license plates of public recordings. There’s also laws regarding “hidden recordings”, which I’d place this under since I could not tell if your glasses are recording me or not.

  • Fewer barriers to entry? A forum is just a simple registration, usually with email confirmation and maybe a captcha once. Facebook wants real life personal information, blocks VPNs and nowadays I think you have to even provide phone numbers or a custom video of yourself. Discord, ON EVERY LOGIN, wants me to solve a 2 level captcha that loves to repeat itself multiple times and to do a two factor authentication while being just a bloated confusing mess of a chat. Reddit also now blocks VPNs like crazy and loves to shadowban you if you’re inactive for a while (or whatever random reason they went with that I cannot think of).

They’re the absolute worst possible choices and exclude countless of people.

  • Cut is also a big factor. After my breakup I got like a big pack of some cheap Amazon boxers and they were terrible (likely designed around small Chinese men and then badly upscaled). Too small (despite being XXL), and the cut was so weird… When walking around the legs would constantly shuffle up and my junk was consequently sticking out to one of the sides, so I had to frequently do the stupid shuffling in my pockets to pull the legs back down. Got some boxers from Schiesser after that, a 2 pack which was of course much more expensive but something I’d just buy with every other order so that I could manage the money and they’re a world of difference. The cut is better, they’re larger and the legs are a little longer. No more moving up while walking at all and the fabric is also a lot softer / more comfy.
