As California goes, so goes the nation. Conservatives don’t like this.
If it wasn’t for the high cost of living, I’d move to California as well. Still hope I’ll make it there some day.

I don’t mind supporting the developer. He can’t rely on tens of thousands of user to buy the app for $1 each on lemmy like he could on reddit. It’s going to be more expensive per user here.
Wow. That does not look good.
Can we have some term limits, please?
Not to this extent in any way. It has been infinitely exacerbated with the dawn of social media. Those who seek to divide have the tools to do so. And we’ve seen since 2016 what it leads to when people are being continually lied to and they believe it because the lies fit into their own belief system. Trump is not a master at much, but he’s a master at that.
People just make up their own truth and say that you’re the one in need of “truth.” It’s a product of the “alternative facts” era that mainly Trump ushered in and others have picked up. If your facts do no support the preferred agenda, it’s just dismissed as “fake news.” Easy-peacy.

I gave Lemmy a shot after the API debacle on reddit. First week was bumpy with lots of timeouts and servers that weren’t able to handle all the new users from reddit.
It quickly improved. So much so that I went ahead and deleted my reddit account.
Started out bumpy and the servers couldn’t handle all the new traffic. Vast improvements over the last few days. So much so that I went ahead and deleted my reddit account today. Not looking back.
The signup process is a barrier at the moment that will have to be addressed. Other than that, I don’t really see why it couldn’t be the new, improved reddit.

This is part of the GOP strategy.
Senator Josh Hawley from Missouri has openly acknowledged that the GOP strategy is to make it so miserable for Democrats in red and purple states that they will move to blue states. That would, in turn, cement Republican power in the White House, Senate and thereby the Supreme Court.

While I agree that spreading the load is important, that doesn’t make much sense to someone who’s new to federation and is possibly coming from reddit where you just join and start commenting. People are automatically searching for a default.
That’s why I went there as well. Seemed like the default.
While you’re off, if you like classic literature, I can recommend Henry David Thoreau’s “Walden” to get more in touch with yourself, nature, and the world around you.
