I completely agree. Absolutely should not federate with Threads.

Honestly? I think a big issue with getting more people over here is kinda the attitude. This place is really elitist and condescending when the real reason go to threads or stick to twitter is cause
I like it here, its been my prefered site, but between the stale memes and elitism the Fediverse has been like the Linux of social media. Probably better, but not really worth it for the average user.
Like, I know that wont win me any friends, but it’s the truth. People are usually going to go the path of least resistance, and Lemmy instances being confusing to navigate for an average user, or looking at Mastodon.world and seeing they banned shitposts and not understanding that they can use a different one or spin up their own is going to turn people away.
If you want a more niche userbase that’s fine, I certainly do, but it’s wild to insult them for being stupid for not joining while actively keeping them away lol
Edit 2: Removed the first edit
I could see that then, kinda like how you can react with different emoji on facebook.
Idk if I’d prefer it, but I think it could work
Lmao, yeah ok. Sure bud.
I feel like the issue with forced feedback when you downvote is you’ll get a lot of comments where its just 1-2 words, doesn’t say much, just a “No” or “Bad”. And if you require a min characters like the bneg forums you’ll just get “No. 10chars”
Requiring comments will cause people to half ass it at best, I think. Which, sure then people can downvote them, but are people going to write a well thought out comment for every “No”?
Is having 40 “I disagree” comments really better for discussion than just 40 downvotes?
I would also add that getting a post mass downvoted can be a sign that a community might not be a good fit for you.
Like, using reddit as an example, if you see someone spreading anti-lgbt hate and getting upvoted, but when you try to be like “Hey that’s not cool” or explain why they’re wrong you get massively downvoted, it can be a really good sign that maybe it’s not a great place.
This is absolutely true. I worked with a dude that we had to fire due to being extremely unhygienic, was asked to do something about literally smelling like shit(We worked in food, he was very, very clearly unhygenic and unsafe around the food) and he threw a fit about how wiping his ass/touching it in the shower would make him gay.
He didn’t start like that as far as I know, but after like a year of working there, so I guess he heard from someone that it was the case and took it to heart or had some kind of mental issues around that time? Idk
It’s the only guy I’ve known to do it, so it’s not a common thing at all, but they’re absolutely out there.
I’m convinced that button just reccomends them more. I’ve clicked it for quartering some 30 times before I got a browser plugin to just outright block channels.
And youtube still tries to send me his videos.
For me if I ever look up warhammer 40k it immediately starts sending me losers like quartering or other channels like him.
Like, bo youtube, I don’t want to hear about how feminism and “wokes” are ruining warhammer. I also don’t want to be sent Sargon of Carl videos. Uhg. Lmao
I like my phone, I have more control over it, I like that it’s not made in ways to punish me for fixing it, I don’t trust Apple, and it cost 300$ instead of costing more than my current car
That’s been Oklahoma’s gameplan. Make public schools as shitty/underfunded as possible so they can get kids into private schools
