In short: Thanks for all the great info and went down quite the rabbit hole with that link to your post, that linked to another person’s post. Great discussions happening there. :-)

But it seems like Friendica or RSS might be the way to go. It’s not about posting videos to Peertube from Mastodon, but about having a hub to follow and interact on other networks like PF, PT, Lemmy, Kbin, FF, etc.

Thanks for your response, was actually thinking of also creating a personal instance, for a small group only, then one can play around and set things there as you would want.

Stupid question, and please understand this comes from someone with a non-dev background:

Would it be possible to install say Mastodon, Kbin and Friendica instances on one server if it’s just one person that’s playing around to test the behind the scenes and see what they can do?

Assuming you could then link them to sub-domains: eg. Kbin.websitename.com Mastodon.websitename.com, etc?

Tried to do a search on Lemmy and Kbin on a post from Beehaw, and it couldn’t find anything. So will have to check if Beehaw has blocked them or something.

It seems that Friendica (using it via the @phanpy@hachyderm.io 3rd part Mastodon app, that it can reach and comment on Beehaw just fine. Read somewhere on one of the replies on the post that Friendica / RSS might just be the best bet in interacting with most / everything in the fediverse.

So will be doing more tests on that.

It isn’t about following everything and everyone, but about not wanting to have a Pixelfed account to follow a photographer, or not needing a Lemmy account to follow interesting topics, or not needing a Mastodon account to follow a blogger / writer. It is perhaps then a bit oversimplified on the “intro to the fediverse” videos / posts that’s been seen on the web. Was hoping to have one single account on any of the above, and then just interact from there, and not needing an account for every single one of them.

This makes no sense, really sorry. Made a post and when looking for it, it just showed nothing. Look here is a screenshot of my personal feed. It only shows the comment on a fediverse post, which I then created into a stand-alone post, in hoping someone would be able to explain or prove me wrong.

And I can’t even go and delete the posts, as when looking inside the posts on my profile, it shows nothing either.

REALLY sorry for the multiple posts, thought the app was bugging out. :-(

This is what makes the Fediverse so frustrating. Been using it for months, with Kbin, FireFish, Mastodon, Friendica, IceShrimp and Lemmy.

And no, they do not speak to one another, find one another or are able to follow / like / reply to one another as one would think the Fediverse works, based on all the videos and illustrations and introductions to the Fediverse.

The truth: some speak to some, and it rarely works both ways. Mastodon has a lot more that it can do with interacting with Lemmy, than the other way around.

And then there are those that defederate from their own kind / federated social network, splintering the Fediverse even further apart.

Have had to either join new , delete accounts, create with new accounts again, just because the server that was suggested or chosen, have been chosen as a server to defederate with.

Now with many accounts and many networks and servers, been trying to find the best place to just have one space in the Fediverse and be able to communicate and follow and interact with other lovely Fediverse users.

Maybe it’s a misunderstanding from this side, but this has been the experience for almost a year now.

Thanks everyone, the name literally sounds like a support community, really stupid naming convention then. Can’t be the first person that thinks it’s a support site?

Been drinking decaf (instant + filter) for a while, due to causing anxiety and crashing badly after. And it’s only when someone doesn’t have decaf and you drink normal coffee (exact same strength, even if made by self) that one realises how bitter the caffeine itself tastes. (Don’t drink sugar, just milk.)

So perhaps they want that bitter bite, which decaf doesn’t do naturally, which the caffeine being the most bitter part of the drink.

Thanks so much for taking the time to explain and for the information. So if understood correctly, you say a web browser woud be best? But then wouldn’t you still need to have an account on Lemmy / Kbin / Mastodon / Peertube / Pixelfed, as they don’t all talk to one another, and for those that do, they don’t necessarily talk both ways, such as Lemmy and Mastodon.

Been using the Fediverse for a few months now, and wow, surprised at how complex some things are to understand still.

We got it off of a PC Mag CD that came with the magazine, perhaps 1999/2000-ish.

Had a look specifically and only some work with some others. Tried to follow a mastodon person on Lemmy, couldn’t even find him, url or name or anything. Lemmy users confirmed it’s a one way thing, with Mastodon being able to do both wats.

Kbin also works both ways, and is also a hybrid of them both, being like reddit and also microblogging. Though it’s quite new still and doesn’t seem to offer keyword filtering or apps at all.

Thanks! But also on further reading, realise that not all Fediverse social networks can interact with one another. And this kind of breaks the whole point of the Fediverse, doesn’t it? Mastodon can follow and interact with Lemmy, but Lemmy can’t even find Mastodin users in search, nevermind follow or interact.

So the Fediverse seems to be more fragmented and broken than initially understood. :-/
