Jesus, calm down. I was just wanting to talk to more people around my age, not trying to wanting any elitism. No need to be snarky
Just more a hangout place online for Gen-Z to talk about our nostalgia and what’s going on in our life. Then bit of a dazzle of question from older generation related to us (in good faith of course).
My experince of the Fediverse in general is that I notice there isn’t as much Gen-Z users and mostly more millennials and Gen-X sorts. Because of it, it feels little awkward talking about stuff I’m interested in as they hadn’t grow up with it and vice versa.
Then it also majority of them (and to be fair, so is other generation as well) used corporate social media and I have ditched at least most of them so I feel like the black sheep which feels little isolating I won’t lie when trying to not use places like Facebook or Instagram which majority of them use.
None. Even trying to suggest Mastodon, still no luck which I just stopped as I’m just exhausted of hearing the answer “no”.
Yes. When I was posting support related post, I felt bad posting it on here as I saw it as more for news or discussion related to Linux or at least people subscribe to it for that reason mainly.
I can understand if the game they play is online and it has an anti-cheat that makes it uncompatible with Linux. (Mainly game devs not allowing Linux to work). Otherwise, my experince with gaming on Linux has been pretty good
Linux as I know it would get updates and support lower-end hardware which I have it installed on my older laptop which I used for opening up Firefox and LibreOffice.
It was ether from one of the subreddit talking about alternative to Reddit which was around the time of Reddit did changes to API or from someone made post about Lemmy on Mastodon and wanted to try it out.
It depends on which user and their workflow. For example, Graphics Designer use Photoshop compare to GIMP because of native CMYK for printing as well as non-destructive effects. Most people will be fine using GIMP.
I bring this up as I tend to see people on Lemmy and even in online space that talks about open source that would bitch about “normies” being too stubborn for not trying Linux or any open-source projects in general but never think about how much compromise they had to do if they do go down the open-source route.
s*x questions on askreddit
Hopefully with LemmyNSFW instance, people would asked there instead on AskLemmy.
But one of the things I’m hoping for is less mean-spirited userbase and the “I am very smart” user. Sadly, it’s unavoidable as it’s the Internet and even irl, people act like that.
Tomb Raider on PlayStation is what I say is way ahead of it’s time which I think not many people give the game credit for.
It is one of the few early 3D games that nails the atmosphere and have tension. I always gets sense of adventure and I discovered part of the tomb by myself which I feel like modern games holds people’s hand a little where it feels less fun and more I been told to do XYZ.
Also the way they did the water effect is impressive that they distort the texture UV postion I believe.
Generally, it been alright and has not too bad selection of topic/communities which most is more popular and broad so like anything that’s more specific won’t be there which I know overtime, it will have them so I’m forgiving on that front.
At first, it was hard to know which instance I want to make my account on. I knew roughly what is the Fediverse and how it works but I remember even when I was giving Mastodon a try that I was overwhelmed and wasn’t sure which instance would be for me. Not sure what suggestion I can say to fix it but there is sight barrer.
I agree with Fwgx that Lemmy and also most (if not) all Fediverse app/services just talk little too much about it being self-hosting and all of that. I think some people on Fediverse forget that not everyone is into what I like to call ‘DIY-Tech’ and just more wants to see it as a service and what can THEY (the instance) bring to the table. This doesn’t mean it shouldn’t mention that you can self-host it but maybe shouldn’t be too much of a priority. Maybe at least have some sort of tutorial or official guide as well as otherwise, I am pretty much on my own which sometime I can solve and learn from it but other people may just get annoyed and give up too easily. They will not know there’s account and even website that is a guide to the Fediverse and it only if someone on their timeline or where they followed/subscribe from that they would know those exist.
I think once the Fediverse services/instance prioritized being user-friendly as well as explain how it works without going too technical that may scare some people away, I can see it grow much bigger and I really hope so as I been enjoying it despite some drawback.
I don’t want to say that doesn’t happen at all but what I mean was just asking a community that primarily is Gen-Z can talk about whatever they feel nostalgic (like whatever TV-Show or games I used to played).
But instead, Lemmy users had to be unhinged and spin it into something that apparently I want some kind of generation war or support a “divide”. I might just go back to Reddit if they are this passive aggressive and take anything in bad faith
