I got curious and did the math if $44B was denominated in $100 bills.
That’s 496.85 cubic kilometers of cash. Or a pile of money that covers half of the continental US, stacked 1/4 of the height of Low Earth Orbit.
I honestly don’t think one could physically burn that much cash since May 2022 in real life.

It’s understandable that they wouldn’t know much about other countries’ history. Sad… but I get it. Public education is slipping worldwide.
What’s bothered me about discussion online for the last 10-15ish years (and it gets worse every year) is that people feel the urgent need to opine strongly on shit they don’t understand - and that bluntly pointing that out is somehow frowned upon.
I long for the days when it was kosher for everyone to just tell them to shut the fuck up until they were ashamed enough to delete or recant.

Yep. I live in one of the “post salary or GTFO” states, and lead with that. Anyone who can’t respond with a straight answer isn’t worth dealing with and is told why.

Kobo consistently makes better products overall, but the ability to avoid Amazon (and the nonsense that comes from their proprietary format) is priceless.

Prurient banter has been a part of online forums since BBS message boards. It’s how most people I know communicate IRL and online: Bullshit, bullshit, nugget of wisdom, picture of cat.
Not everything needs to be THUPER THERIAL, but it can be (and has frequently been) overdone because a lot of people don’t realize that self-censorship is a hammer to be swung heavily.

I, too, am upset at how echo chambery reddit became, and the knee-jerk censorship the mods displayed. I had an account permanently and immediately banned from politics for “hate speech” because I said that DINOs Kirsten Sinema and Joe Manchin were date rapists for bending the Democratic party over against its will after taking them out to a nice dinner. Over the next few weeks, I was silently banned from about a dozen other subs.
Turns out that the person behind it all was the same “powermod” who threw a colossal tantrum after being banned herself just a couple of weeks ago.
I disagree with you about globally deplatforming “the bad guys,” because I don’t get to choose who they are, and one day - like above - that “bad guy” could end up being you.
Don’t like it, or can’t deal with it? Block them.
