help-circle

  • No EU passport for me sadly, just a visa. If I could get one I super would want to.

We is my partner and I. Very much a team effort.

great question. I think giving yourself some grace has been a hard but helpful part. Like you will probably not have the bandwidth for keeping the house as clean, the working out, the self improvement, etc etc. Just even giving myself extra time to go to the store and extra space to make boring or meh meals has helped.

Beyond that, all the stuff you’d expect. Putting yourself out there. Listening. Money never hurts (and can help fix certain problems). Friends (from afar and close) are huge.

I began volunteering shortly after arriving and it helped make me a friend circle. I love hanging with them and already can’t wait for Thanksgiving here!

  • That’s how it’s been explained to me by laymen many many times. Just casually (ish, I have a math degree) looking at the math, chatting with a friend who is a quantum physicist, being involved with computers, etc I find that Grover’s Algorithm is not at all capable of something like that. I’m not sure there’s anything better in terms of breaking encryption

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grover's_algorithm

Grover’s algorithm could brute-force a 128-bit symmetric cryptographic key in roughly 264 iterations, or a 256-bit key in roughly 2128 iterations. It may not be the case that Grover’s algorithm poses a significantly increased risk to encryption over existing classical algorithms, however.[4]

I am stoked for what it could do for protein folding, or other heavy simulation work, but in terms of proper encryption I don’t believe it actually will change much.

  • Nope. Motherboard SPDIF to (“dumb”) speakers. Can’t get the mobo SPDIF out to work in Mint.

I’m certain if I sink enough hours in I can figure something out but like 6 hours into troubleshooting this I decided I didn’t have the bandwidth to take 100% of my fun time away to do what feels like my job to me.

Man i wish Mint worked out of the box as well as virtually everyone on here says it does.

I am a former software engineer, and don’t want my home PC to be a hobby. I’m like 6 hours into trying to make my (simple) audio setup work on Mint Cinnamon and it’s intermittent at best. Never have even thought about it on Windows.

It is plug and play compared to Linux of old, it’s clearly come a long way. But it’s nowhere near as easy as Windows still, for anyone who isn’t trying to make this a hobby

They tell you to put it to airplane mode first, and it’s Denmark so the vast majority of people follow a rule like that.

I guess you go downstairs and get it unlocked if it’s really bothering you, then come back. I have a feeling that things like “everyone doesn’t respect the rule and the amber alert is annoying now” are very low likelihood here.
