  • Just checked out Seal. My impression:

It uses the same backend as MeTube (yt-dlp), so they have the same capability as far as website support and file formats.

Seal looks like a good option if you don’t have access to your home network or if you don’t have a dedicated machine to host things.

I still prefer MeTube because it’s a web UI that I can access from any machine. I use a VPN to stay connected to my house so I could still use MeTube while away.

Is it primarily for iPhone users?

MeTube is just a web UI, not a phone app. It is accessible by any device that can see the local IP and port of the host machine.

  • I usually have a pack of gum and I deliberately start a pattern on how I take pieces out. Usually it’s from left to right, emptying a full row before I move on to the next.

My test is to offer them gum and see where they pick from. Will they recognize a pattern and continue it? Or will they be oblivious?

Either way, it’s not a measure of good or bad. It’s just a fun lil test.

  • Also: Garmin recently enshittified by simultaneously adding an AI slop component that works by taking all of your recorded fitness and location data and doing gods know what with it, as well as a paid subscription tier to their obligatory smartphone app – the latter after explicitly promising for many years that they wouldn’t. So not only is their hardware expensive (and their owners are now rightly pissed), they’re also liars. I would not give them any money until they shape up, if I were you. Assuming they ever do…

Gadgetbridge works with most Garmin models. I have the Instinct 2 Solar and have never created a Garmin account or downloader the app.
