  • I really could care less either way.

My pet peeve is people who say this expression wrong, because it’s not only slightly mispronounced, but entirely turned on it’s head to mean the exact opposite of its intention. This reversal of meaning seems clear, so I’m not sure why the error is so prolific, though it does seem more of a thing in other countries like the USA, not so much here.

It’s “couldn’t care less”, not “could care less”. You’re trying to say “I care so little that it is not possible for me to care any less than I do already”.

Instead, by saying you “could care less”, you are being ambiguous about how much you care, but confirming that you care at least a little bit (or possibly due to the ambiguity it’s the most important thing in your life and you care so, so much).

Sorry if I sound grouchy, it’s just something that’s bugged me for a long time and here at 5am is when I decided to finally say something about it, haha. No shade on you personally though, as the hip youths would say! :-D

  • They were allowing kids to use phones in classrooms up to that point…?

When I went to school, if you were seen with your phone out during class it was confiscated until the end of the day. And back then all you could use them for was texting anyway haha.

Anything that might distract from the lesson would be treated the same way, that’s just basic sense for any teacher.

Why would teachers stop caring about phones in classrooms, especially given how famously addictive and problematic to attention etc we now know them to be?

  • 49% chance the world will end in just 25 years

Giant meteor coming to wipe out all of the world’s life?

predicted civilisation could collapse by 2050

Oh, so just the collapse of current civilisation. That’s happened many, many times already.

While not a good thing for those experiencing it, consider this. As we look back on previous civilisations, would we consider ours to generally be the best up to now? I’d say so. Perhaps what comes next will be even better.

The collapse of a particularly large civilisation is usually a slow affair that is difficult even to spot from the inside as it’s happening (consider the slow crumbling of the USA currently for example).

So while it is a period of turmoil and not a small amount of suffering, it’s not like everybody is going to die and humanity will go extinct, or anything.

  • Fascist Techno-Oligarch Elon Musk obviously shouldn’t be given any control over the United Kingdom’s vital national infrastructure. His track record speaks for itself.

No private for-profit business or individual, international or national, should EVER control our key national infrastructure.

Electricity, Water, Sewage, Health Service, Internet connectivity, Roads, Trains, Military, Aeroplane infrastructure, Fire Brigade, Education, Street Lighting, Police Service, etc.

All are vital to the nation and the public interest, and should be owned by the people of the nation and managed by the democratically elected governing body the people have placed in charge to run things, without the capitalist profits driven mindsets of private individuals.

This just seems like obvious common sense to me, and yet here we are, sadly.
