  • The first ultra wide gaming experience I had was with Shadow of Mordor. It was like walking onto the set of one of the Peter Jackson movies.

If you can swing it, I recommend the extra step of getting a curved ultra wide. I started with one and ended up swapping it with a bigger flat one for some productivity features and the corners just felt so far away from me that it diluted the gaming experience a bit.

  • I bounced off of that one for a while. Bought it on sale and was kinda digging it until I hit the first boss and just couldn’t beat him. I tried a few times until I noticed that I was losing some not -yet-defined currency with every death and found that very antagonistic. I can’t remember if they’d implemented the invincibility toggle and I was too bull headed to use it, or if this was before that update.

Put it down for a few years, then came back to it when I heard enough people raving about how much they had enjoyed it. I think Alan Wake 2 was out by that point. Picked it up, used invincibility to get past that boss, turned it off, and fell in love with the rest of the game like everyone else

  • For me, the value add of Plex is their maintenance and support of the apps on various platforms and the authentication and connection management. I do have my server port forwarded, so there’s no reason for them to handle my media streams. Being able to tell a new user that all they need to do is download an app from a trusted app repository and create a free account so I can invite them to my libraries is a super simple experience for most skill levels and well worth the $60 or so I spent on a lifetime Plex pass over a decade ago.

I get that there are use cases where it makes more sense to go with a completely free solution like JellyFin, but many critics of Plex act like ALL they are doing is serving user-supplied media on a web server, and that’s a gross misrepresentation of their offering.

I don’t love the IPTV stuff that they do, but it’s not that difficult to tweak the current app so that only my libraries are shown. Compared to an experience like my smart TV which is shoving ads down my throat and adding steps to get to the apps I want, it’s an experience I can live with if it keeps Plex in the black.

  • When I had my first dog, I drove a Kia Soul and would put the back row of seats down when I took him places. Depending on the circumstances, I might let him in from the rear hatchback or one of the rear side doors. One day I called him out to the car and was standing beside the open rear passenger side door. He came tearing down the path at full speed, rounded the car and leapt-- into the closed back door. He yiped, looked at me like he was offended, then hopped in the open door.

OP, I feel you pain. My current dog ate a toy, too. Only it wasn’t his toy, and I don’t have any kids…

$4300 emergency vet visit later, my girlfriend and I are much better about cleaning up after playtime.
