Almost all these smart devices are useless. Just give me a fucking toaster or microwave that doesn’t die in six months, there is no world on which being able to connect my microwave or dishwasher to the internet is relevant or helpful to anyone but the data miners.

The plus side is that it’s open source, so we could look into having some way to collapse crossposts in view so that you eg. see a single link with a “see other conversations about this” button.

I haven’t looked at S&V, but BT has a much more hard sci-fi feel than SW… I’m assumed it wouldn’t be a great fit. How much does scum and villainy lean on the “space fantasy” angle?

It’s been the case for a very long time that most appliances are built to function until the warranty expires. Air friers are a fairly new fad, so it’s tougher to know what would be bifl.

Charging specifically. In my case, I leave my charger by the bedside and don’t carry it around. It’s actually baffling to me that the cord wears out so often.

I’ve had my moccamaster coffeemaker for about fifteen or twenty years now and it makes coffee just as well as it did when brand new. It’s been easy to dismantle for cleaning, and I replaced the carafe once when I broke the handle on the old one (but the old one is still in storage and I occasionally use it when I need to have two pots on the go). It’s all pretty simple, well built machinery and I don’t foresee anything being able to go wrong it.
