Hawaii barracks has been complained about by everyone since…forever I think. The contaminated drinking water on bases is endemic. Moldy old barracks aside the family living conditions were always bad and only get worse with age and wear. I didnt mean to imply that anything was good about it, and the complaints definitely outweigh the compliments on military living with or without family accommodations. There is a lot of room for improvement, whats killer is that all the wrong people are acutely aware of the glaring issues.

It certainly can be cheaper than other groceries. The beef is cheaper but its also a lower grade beef than what is sold in most grocers. Usda choice instead of prime, lowers costs but tbf technically isnt a direct competition with Safeway etc. There are some items you can certainly get cheaper but others are more, toiletries and such are usually close if not more at the commissaries

Honestly I would compare it to group project eugenics because of the strict processing and selection of who can join. Cant be disabled, have to have all your arms and legs, picky even about eyesight. They might be picking the poor but theyre also grabbing the healthiest of the poor.

I knew someone would point out “hazard pay”. It is not really common, but if youre gonna split hairs; what about BAQ/BAH? The pay differential isnt any more significant than shift differentials. There is a difference between flight crew and ground crew in aviation and they get different hours and pay, but the base rate is absolutely the same by rank.

Its not just the commissary. The entire way the military works is functional communism. Housing is assigned by rank, is available to anyone currently in contract, as well as healthcare and obviously, work. Pay is rated by rank and not by position, a Physician assistant gets the same rank pay as a Lt working command staff in any other unit. There is no capitalism in the DoD at all not even under their procurement systems.

Retirement is 20 years after signing up. 20 years ago was 2025; there was such an enormous push for recruitment then. Expect this trend to continue well into 2028 when the surge ended.

To have access to those originals, or just getting to experience remasters that are worth the time to listen to would be worth the cost to store. Its not just the medium of storage though, right. It is about hearing it, fully just as it was intended and we have given a lot of that up as a compromise to abstracting compression.

There is a huge fidelity difference between physical media, as much as I have enjoyed mp3 it always sounded off and we know why. Data storage is still an enormous premium, I had hoped the future would reduce the price to access any media due to it not having to be printed, pressed or otherwise transferred physically, but that pipe dream is long gone.

I feel like this opinion is more damaging to the cause than most people realize. Accessibility and usability are just so important, I would never demand that the opensource community do this task as it should be a cost to consumers just not like the SASS model we are currently dealing with.

I think I would like the world to be different, I just dont know how to get there yet.

No doubt that the black box solution is out of reach as of yet, but as technology moves forward the changes become less and less of a delta and it could be possible in the future. I would like to look at this solution like we look at video game consoles, or Roku even.

Revanced is a project that works exclusively with YT content as far as I can tell, right? This is an interesting project, i will try to follow along.

Back almost a decade ago I was using Google Fi and it had access to YT Music when that existed. It was easy to use, but the content was limited and I found it very hard to find new music.
