From the Atlanta Daily World:

Photo: Getty Images A GOP lawmaker is facing backlash after referring to White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre as a “DEI hire.” On Tuesday (July 2), Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert ® suggested that Jean-Pierre was only hired to fill a diversity quota. “I couldn’t care less about what @PressSec has to say today,” Boebert tweeted. … Continued

A clock shaped like a pile of rancid garbage is still right twice a day, as harsh as it is.

Karine Jean-Pierre is not a very good press secretary, And while I don’t know what the candidate pool was or what the vetting process was like, I think you’d be hard pressed to say that her being a black, LGBT, woman didn’t at all factor into her getting picked for the job. And while that’s not a bad thing, let’s not clutch our pearls and pretend calling her a DEI hire is some unhinged claim.

Ask yourself this, do DEI hires exist? Yes, they often do. Does KJP tick literally all the boxes for a DEI hire? She absolutely does.

In this context, calling her “a DEI hire” means she’s not qualified. You’re saying she’s not qualified? Hey y’know who wasn’t a very good press secretary at all? Sean Spicer. Remember when he jumped in the bushes? He wasn’t a DEI hire was he? Nooooo. White men don’t need no steenking badges.

It doesn’t mean she’s unqualified, it just means more qualified candidates may have been passed over in favor of her because she’s more diverse. And considering how bad of a job she’s doing, if you are trying to make the claim that she WASN’T a DEI hire and she was hired solely because she was the best candidate, then you are making the claim that Biden and his cabinet are so incompetent that they can’t attract anyone talented who wants to work for them.

And don’t deflect with “well the horrible people during Trump were worse!” Yea, no shit. It was the Trump presidency. That changes absolutely nothing about KJP and why she was hired.

You’re taking this statement from Lauren Boebert and assuming there’s some validity to it. I just wanted you to know that.

So you don’t think DEI serves any useful purpose. That whenever you see people of color who aren’t good at their jobs they got those jobs just because they weren’t white. Or, just in this one, very-specific, very high-profile instance.

Hey, I get it. I know a lot of people who think like that. They don’t mean to be - y’know - dismissive of DEI (of course in Ye Olden Tymes it was called Affirmative Action). Well . . some of them did. Oh man, some of them really did, y’know. But they were struggling with their own things, and it was the style at the time.

You must have the list of potential candidates then.

          Post it here.

          I’ll wait.

How do you think DEI hiring works? Not a rhetorical question, I’m interested in your thoughts.

Do you say she’s not very good because you think she’s unqualified?

      https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karine_Jean-Pierre

It seems to me she has a well-developed resumé, she has held several key posts in Democratic campaigns before landing the Press Secretary gig. She appears to be objectively qualified for her job. Much more so than

      https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lauren_Boebert

Who owned a bunch of restaurants before running for office. Her main qualification semes to be that she talked some shit to an ex-member of the Cult of the Dead Cow. But the only vetting process she went through was an election.

I’m saying she’s not very good because of her many gaffs and avoidance of questions.

And why compare her to Boebert? Boebert is a shit stain who’s unqualified to work at a fruit stand, let alone be a congresswoman. You bring up her qualifications like you think it’s some new info.

I don’t understand how people think this type of deflection is worth anything. “You think this person is bad, well what about this other person who’s WORSE?!” Yea, that doesn’t make the first person better. This isn’t a fucking grade school popularity contest.

Boebert is the one calling her a DEI hire, meanwhile Jean-Pierre has a Masters degree from Columbia and years of relevant experience.

I know people with PhDs and decades of experience that are still shit at their jobs.

I haven’t watched any of the White House press events so I don’t know how good she is at her job, but just having a nice resume doesn’t mean shit.

So you haven’t observed any of her work as White House press Secretary, and the only argument that you can make against her is to invalidate her credentials and education? But hey, if they hired a woman that means that there must have been someone more qualified that they overlooked. There’s absolutely no way or any reason a black queer woman could ever get into that position on merit /s

That being said, I’m not saying that she shouldn’t be subject to criticism, but why not compare her performance to that of previous Democrat administrations?

I am not arguing against her. As I said, I’m not familiar with her performance. I have no opinion on that matter.
