What you need to do is learn to enjoy the weird, the jank, the stupid.

I walk into stupidity every day doing IT support, from “HELP! ALL THE COMPUTERS ARE BROKEN! (A website was down)”, to “HELP! ALL THE COMPUTERS ARE BROKEN! (one computer had been unplugged because someone wanted to plug in a space heater)”, to “HELP! ALL THE COMPUTERS ARE BROKEN! (power was down for the whole building, people had been told to WFH, but they came in anyway)”.

Despair leads to Nihilism, Nihilism leads to absurdism.
Absurdism leads to a lot of fun.

Been in IT for over 15 years and this was exactly what I was thinking too. But the top is how I felt 10-15 years ago. Now, after years of dealing with the dumbest users and the craziest decisions from tech companies, I’m more Shaw than Picard.

No thank you. I hated every minute of IT support. Went from analyst to Team Leader then manager. Working as a server engineering apprentice now and loving it

I’m in IT too. I’m a network engineer who grew up wanting to be Scotty and ended up B’Elanna.

You know what? I don’t much care for ST-Picard, but that guy, that guy is the best character in all of modern Star Trek.

He was written like a real person. At first he seemed like an asshole just for the sake of the story, but he was revealed to have very real motivation for his actions.

The acquisition of upvotes is no longer the driving force in our lives. We work to better Lemmy and the rest of the internet.

It really did make my day to see it pop up here. Thanks for sharing, and glad you liked it.

First off, love the repurposing of a First Contact quote. Big fan.

Second, thank you. That’s the driving force for me now. To make others day a little bit better, even if only for a tiny moment.

Also I love it. Shaw rapidly tied with Picard for my second place Captain. He is also my spirit animal.
